Understand the real facts about solar PV and how it will benefit

A few key facts to help you decide

The following information is a guide only and the answers provided are based on a ‘typical installaion’. Our survey will outline suitability, specific specifications and requirements for your property, as well as costs and timescales.

Question: How do I know if my home will be suitable for installing solar PV?
Answer: Unlike many companies we will tell you straight away if we believe your property will not benefit from the installation of a solar PV (Photovoltaic) system.

Question: Will I need planning permission?
Answer: You are required to inform your local planning authority of your intention to install an electric solar energy system. In almost all cases it will be considered as a ‘permitted development’, however in some cases planning permission may be required, we will discuss the processes at the initial survey stage.

Question: How much will it cost?
Answer: Generally speaking a system will cost between £6,000 – £15,000 (inc VAT)

Question: How long will the installation take?
Answer: Depending on the size of your installation and circumstances it could take between 1-3 days to install. This will be advised at site survey stage.

Question: How long will PV solar panels last?
Answer: Generally the panels will last the full 25 years, they’re guaranteed to remain at 90% efficient for 10 years and 80% efficient for up to 25 years. The inverter has a predicted life span of between 10 and 15 years, so it’s always worth bearing in mind that at some point over the 25 year life of the system the inverter will need replacing a least once.

Question: Do you give a guarantee?
Answer: Most of our panels come with a 10 year warranty, the SMA inverters come with a 5 year warranty as standard but extended warranties are available, we guarantee our workmanship i.e the fixings on the roof, for 20 years.

Question: Do you provide ongoing maintenance?
Answer: Due to no moving parts PV systems are relatively low maintenance, during our handover period we explain things to check for that could affect the performance of the system , i.e over grown trees, cleanliness of panels etc, however, if required we do offer an annual health check of your system at a competitive rate.

Question: How do I claim the feed in tariff?
Answer: We will advise every step of the way and help you fill the required paper work.
